Brentwood

"Asian Americans are heavily stereotyped. I think the problem among the Brentwood community is that they believe that these stereotypes are so heavily stated and used that they aren’t offensive anymore. Eating dogs, small eyes, good at math are just some that are constantly passed around the school. Not very many people are educated enough to understand that these stereotypes are built on the hate of Asians. Some believe that we are the “model minority” which is racist because it’s degraded the hardships that Asian people had to go through to get to this point in America. The “small” stereotyping has caused me so many subconscious insecurities as a child and growing up still hearing them does not make it any better. I am not smart because I am Asian. I am smart because I worked hard. (We need to) build a better community and advocate for diversity."

"1. Asians are so looked down upon like they are not humans. People judge you as a nerd, and make fun of your eyes and say racist jokes without any care. One guy made an eating a dog joke IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE SCHOOL, and everyone laughed and did nothing. They judge Asians like weird anime freaks when the majority are normal.

2. So many WHITE kids say the n word thinking it is so cool when it is not. They try to act all black while being racist. This is not okay and shouldn’t be ignored."

"This one teacher just retired actually, but he was the epitome of racism at BHS. He had Trump posters, historical photographs of confederate soldiers, and "the south will rise again" posters displayed in his room. The dude taught                     ... so literally no reason for political/historical posters to be in his room, especially not ones like that. I'm pretty sure teachers aren't supposed to declare political ideologies that openly to their students anyways. Also, I swear on my life I've seen him wear a confederate flag pin on his shirt. A lot of people actually liked this guy somehow, just because he was super old and some people found him endearing. Many agreed with his extreme-right views too. But I don't understand how any of his behavior was ever tolerated, never mind the fact he was objectively terrible at his job."
